Restored Lawn-Boy Commercial 8480 self propel lawn mower. 1986 model. This mower features Lawnboy's legendary F series OMC 2 stroke engine. It also features a belt driven single speed disc self propel system and a lightweight cast aluminum deck with rear discharge. This mower features commercial upgrades including steel front wheels with bearings, a large one gallon pedestal mounted gas tank, and a steel engine guard. It also has a rare snorkel air intake system installed. Requires a 32:1 gas/oil mix. This mower was commonly referred to as “The School Bus” because of its unusually long handles.
This machine has been restored to original condition. It has been completely cleaned and degreased. The deck has been blasted and powder coated Lawn-Boy green. The handles, engine shroud, and tank pedestal have been blasted and powder coated the correct color green. The front wheels have been refinished.
The engine has been disassembled, decarboned and vapor honed to restore the finish on the aluminum. The muffler has been refinished, and a new exhaust gasket has been installed. The carburetor has been disassembled and cleaned. Additional new parts include a new CDI ignition module, new blade, new cables, new air filter element and a new warning decal. It starts easily and runs great.
The snorkel air intake system installed on this machine has an air tight cover fastened to the carburetor body and a corrugated flexible tube running to a remote air filter housing on the upper handle.
This is a rare one year only machine. This machine is a nice example of the unusual 20 Supreme square deck mowers. They were the first dedicated rear bagger machines produced by Lawn-Boy, and some of the first to use a transmission in place of capstan drive. These machines were innovative and unique in their day. The self propel system is engaged by pushing the handle forward much like today's Personal Pace system found on modern Toro mowers. They are becoming rare, and are an important piece of Lawn-Boy history.
